Eclectic…Ethereal…Energetic! From off the runway to décor and event trends, 2015 style will be retro, magical, and charming. Colors and designs this coming season have an “en plein air” attitude reflective of society’s need to relax, reflect and escape from the hectic, technology-driven lives we lead.
The Pantone Fashion Color Report for spring/summer 2015 is reporting an “eclectic, ethereal mix” with soft, cool understated bright hues, pale pastels and subtle neutral tones that create a soothing balance this season. The Top 10 colors are Aquamarine, an airy pale blue; Scuba Blue, a tropical blue; Lucite Green, a luminous, minty shade of green; Strawberry Ice, a refreshing pink hue; Toasted Almond, an warm, neutral taupe; Tangerine, a vibrant orange; Classic Blue, a brilliant cobalt blue that also happens to be the anchor color this season; Custard, a happy pale yellow; Glacier Grey, a timeless, icy gray hue; and Marsala, Pantone’s 2015 color of the year, a sophisticated, red-brown, wine tone. This color was chosen because “Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. With its “natural earthiness”, it is a color that is “universally appealing” across all channels, from fashion to beauty and interiors. What are your thoughts with this color choice? Do you love it or hate it? Leave us a comment below this article…we would love to hear if you plan on using it in your event design schemes this coming year!
Even though this report is compiled based on fashion and apparel trends, these color trends move into linens, décor, and home furnishings as well. Check out any of your favorite magazines for fashion, weddings, or home décor and see how closely the colors and textures associate from season to season! Fabrics in 2015 include velvets, satins, sequins, brocades, embellished and metallic laces, cut-away, embossed or punched patterns, tattered chiffons, textured leathers, faux furs and feathers, braided hemp, boucle, and embroidered mesh textures. Patterns in fabrics range from romantic floral prints, ethnic-inspired and modern geometric textiles. Velvets and lace can be simple or embellished and metallic to create an ornamental look. Sequins are still on trend as well. Dipped feathers in metallic coatings or fringe in gold and copper Fox tones embellish footwear and fashions. And finally, romantic English Garden floral prints are printed on fabrics such as Lace, Chiffon or Charmeuse and paired with stripes, plaids or geometric patterns in balancing color palettes to create an eclectic, bohemian chic look.
Home décor is always inspired by the latest fashion trends and then carries over into event and wedding design. Some of our favorite themes trending this year are Nouveau Riche, Eclectic Artistry, Country Luxe, and Savvy Chic.
Nouveau Riche – We like to call this look “Urban Royalty” as it is a mix of modern with a regal appeal. This look can be achieved with brocades, textured metallic fabrics like lace and lame, pearls, velvets, and embroidered mesh fabrics. Adding in mirrored décor and metals creates an ornate look with a hint of indulgence. Rich colors like Blues and Golds will be on trend for this particular look. We are already seeing this look on the red carpet in vintage brocades, lavish prints, and textured metallics.
Eclectic Artistry – Retro art and modern fashions are combined to create an eclectic look and tone. “Couture Punk” and abstract Geometric prints are combined to create an infused diversity with this off-beat theme. Fabrics like Boucle, Mesh and Applique, faux Leather and Fringe will be hot. Geometric prints in punched patterns and burnouts will be trending with an ethnic or tribal flair. Mixing non-matching prints and patterns like stripes or geometrics with floral designs will bring out the eclectic and contemporary feel to this trend. Fairytale or magical, fantasy-inspired events can be achieved utilizing these décor elements.
Country Luxe – This nature inspired look is achieved by adding charm to something that is lacking elegance or refinement! Think English Garden meets Country Chic! Large events are taking place in industrial type buildings so mixing metal with earthy elements like wood tables or painting Manzanita trees or wooden chandeliers with metallic coatings will be on trend moving into 2015. Fabrics such as Lace, Eyelets, Bleached Denim, Tartan, Patchwork prints, and floral or watercolor prints on Charmeuse or Chiffon add a delicate charm to stylize the décor for these rustic settings. Moss and Succulents add an eco-friendly “green” element as well. Colors like lemongrass, leafy greens and shades of taupe/cocoa will be on trend for this theme.
Savvy Chic - From simple to glam, this look can be achieved with neutral colors and accessorizing with fabulous fabrics or lavish décor elements. Sequins, fringe, textured ruffles, and chiffons can be blended and layered to create a glamorous appeal. Accent pieces like pearls and crystals will enhance the design and can create a look that radiates opulence. A timeless and classic look can be achieved by using neutral tones such as blush, champagne and silver or black & white for a contemporary or elegant affair.
